In August of 1996, just 6 months after saddling my first horse, I was lucky enough to meet a very special filly named Snappy Little Tune. I purchased her privately at Ellis Park for $17,500. She went on to win 13 races for us, including 3 stake races, and earned $382,138. She won at distances from 5 & 1/2 furlongs to 1 & 1/16 miles and posted several 100+ Beyers' Speed Figures. She provided us with some big thrills and helped, along with Isaacsmyman, to generate some early interest in our racing stable.
Snappy Little Tune was retired from racing in February of 2000, and was bred to Tactical Cat, resulting in a 2001 filly "Snappy Little Cat" who was stakes placed in 2003. Snappy Little Cat is pictured at right as a foal with Snappy Little Tune. Snappy Little Tune's other foals:
We are sad to report that Snappy Little Tune was euthanized on June 2, 2008. She was an incredibly successful and inspiring racemare and broodmare, and we will miss her.
Snappy was always flattered by the company she kept. Following is a list of quality mares she managed to finish in front of during her racing career, along with photos from several of her biggest wins.
