Early evidence that Jeff was destined for a life with horses
Jeff's cousin Jim writes, "Hi Y'all, This picture was taken around '57-'58, I think. I was big into puppets at the time, so here I am with my "homemade" puppet. Actually, it was the remains of my "Jack in the Box" that I had gutted in a fit of boredom. When facing my mother with the evidence on the floor, I just said, "Look! It's a puppet now!" That saved my butt that time. There's my Cousin Jeff with a toy horse and cowboy in his hands. What else? Jeff is now a successful horse owner and trainer in Louisville. I gave up the puppet business years ago...

An interesting thing about this picture is that Jeff has on the suit that our Aunt Doris gave him. You see, the Greenhill's always drew names at Thanksgiving to give presents to each other on Christmas. The kids always got toys and I never really noticed what the grownups got. One particular Christmas, Aunt Doris got Jeff's name and gave him this suit. All the kids had opened their presents and were playing with their toys when Jeff opened his gift and found this suit. Well, all hell broke loose with Jeff screaming and hollering, followed by him throwing himself in the floor and running around in circles like Curly with The Three Stooges! Everybody laughed, which only made matters worse. Even though Jeff was only around 2 years old, I think he could have killed us all. I do remember Uncle Nello having to physically restrain him.

The next Christmas, Aunt Doris drew my name. With Jeff's experience fresh on my mind, I tore the page out of the Sears and Roebuck Catalog that had the Mattel "Fanner 50" Cap Pistol that I wanted. Aunt Doris came through, but she got me the one "without the holster." You had to be specific with Aunt Doris, but I still came out better than ol' Jeff, who was warped by the experience and has never been able to live down doin' the "Curly Shuffle" that Christmas at Grandmother and Granddaddy Greenhill's house in Rock Creek, Alabama.
Livin' the dream, Cousin Jim
